The Almtal did not earn its fame simply by being home to Nobel prize winner and "father of the gray geese" Konrad Lorenz, or even by being the accidental premature birthplace of princess Stephanie of Monaco's child.
Its beauty has been legendary for centuries with its magical charm and natural ruggedness, far away from the destruction that lies in the path of mass tourism.
The only concession made to visitors is the spacious parking place, outfitted with wooden tables and benches and restrooms. You will also find camping grounds, two lakeside restaurants, and a beautiful wildlife preserve in the middle of the valley.
A day at the lake, a dip in the cool waters, and a stroll along the eastern shore of the lake as the sun sets over glistening ripples of sheer endless waters - you will never forget such an experience of wonder as when you watch the gray geese flock together in the encroaching evening mists, or when you try out the echoes in the "Echoplatzerl". You will suddenly understand with crystal clarity why the road leading to the Almtal is called the 'romance avenue'.
