Surrounded by the endlessness of the "Burgenland puszta", Andau offers recreation, leisure and sports activities, entertainment and social gatherings but also something unique and very special: History and the arts. In 1956 the bridge of Andau became a global symbol of freedom and helpfulness for thousands of Hungarian refugees whose odyssey ended in Andau. Today the village of Andau is a meeting point for many international artists, who line the former getaway with their objects and sculptures. This very impressive open-air gallery reaches from the village of Andau to the Einserkanal right at the Hungarian border. Both as a reminder and as an act in the spirit of tolerance and humanity, the Austrian and the Hungarian part of this open-air-gallery were connected by a new "Bridge of Andau" in 1996. The border to Janossomorja/Hungary is open for cyclists and pedestrians from April - October.
