“If you’ve seen Venus, come to Aulus” – that was the 19th century way of talking about syphilis. The healing water here was very dear to Bourvil and his famous conference on the dangers of alcoholism.
Aulus is a good skiing base, Guzet-Neige being very near by. There are truly excellent local cheeses (such as Bethmale). Rafting is also popular, guided tours are available in Seix, on the Salat river, with the tour leaders being reassuringly knowledgeable about each bend in the river.
