A coastal town created by one of the largest Amerindian communities in French Guiana, the Galibi, also known as the Kalina.
Not only is Awala-Yalimapo full of charm and folklore, it is also one of the last spots where the world's largest turtle, the Leatherback (Dermochelys corriacca) can be observed during the laying or hatching seasons.
It is also the place to come to watch Green Turtles (Chelonia mydas) and Olive Ridley Turtles (Lepidochelys olivacea), as well as numerous species of bird.
