Tourist Information about Basse Pointe

Basse Pointe

The coast North Atlantic of Martinique was in the past called Capesterre, which means the coast with the wind. Vis-a-vis l?océan there, the coasts are generally escarpées and the beaches s?y make rare and are often beaten by the waves. Aujourd?hui, the area is turned mainly towards l?agriculture but conscious of its singularities and the richness of its countryside, turns more and more to the country holidays.

Initially populated by the Arawaks Indians, then by the Caribbean, the latter left the area for l?île close to the Domenica, driven out by the first colonists. Rich person and fertile, the grounds are there particularly favourable with the various cultures which s?y succeeded, d?abord the tobacco, then the cane with sugar and from now on, l?ananas and the banana. This long agricultural history is found through many old dwellings whose vestiges, disseminated in the countryside are the principal tourist attractions of the area.
