Population: 1,200. Pronounced "Bell-ing-jum" and known as, "Capital of the North Tyne Valley". A small, attractive stone-built town on the edge of the National Park which is also a good centre for visits to Kielder Water and Forest. The town's history and railways are remembered at the Bellingham Heritage Centre. A 2 mile walk from the town leads to the attractive waterfall at Hareshaw Linn. Philip Larkin's poem "Show Saturday" from his book "High Windows" is based on the Bellingham Show which takes place every year in late August.
