The road intersection and the railway junction underlie the importance of this western suburb of Vukovar on the banks of the Danube in terms of transit tourism. The town is famous for its rubber industry and leather processing plant Borovo (former Bata), with outdoor swimming pools and accompanying sports and recreational facilities, mainly used by the population of nearby Vukovar.
BOROVO, a town on the right bank of the Danube river in the region of Slavonia, 4 km northwest of Vukovar; elevation 90 m; population 6,442. Economy is based on rubber and textile industries. Borovo is located on the main road (M7) Vukovar Osijek.
The Gradac location had been continuously inhabited from the prehistoric times to the 16th century. The church of St. Margaret and the Order of Hermits were mentioned in 1427. In the second half of the 15th century the Gorjanskis built a stone citadel of a quadrangular form. Borovo became desolate after the arrival of the Turks in 1526 when the mediaeval monuments disappeared.
