Caleta Olivia is considered the gateway to the province of Santa Cruz, since it is only 50 km from the limit with Chubut, and has a population of approximately 30.000 inhabitants It is one of the cities of the province with more commercial and oil movement, founded at the beginning of the XX century as a loading port for the ovine production of the region, but in 1944, with the discovery of oil in Cañadón Seco, it became an important commercial pole.
