A busy little town amidst huge banana plantations, one of them is the estate of Bois Debout, where, as a child, the poet Saint-John Perse spent his holidays. Entering the village coming from Pointe-à-Pitre you'll drive through an avenue lined with magnificent flamboyant trees (blossoming May-September). You'll leave the village through the Dumanoir Alley: 1 km between two double lines of royal palm trees planted in the 19th century. The parrish also includes the villages Sainte-Marie in the north, Saint-Sauveur and Bananier - a very neat fisher's village - in the south. Sainte Marie is the place where Christopher Colombus landed on November 4th, 1493. His statue has been raised in memory of this event.
