Tourist Information about Fortaleza

Fortaleza

Two words define the capital of Ceará State: sun and party. Sun is absolute on 25 kilometers of beaches. Party is the permanent state of spirit of the people and the city. Forró, typical musical style on the region of northeast, is on the people’s blood, on the beaches, on the bars, on the restaurants, on the hotels, in the dance clubs... on the streets of Fortaleza.

If people’s happiness and hospitality and the cultural animation are characteristics that make people love Fortaleza at the first sight, other elements also contribute to include the city on the required route of the visitor on Brazil’s northeast. Modern capital, it has become one of the preferred beach of Brazilian and Latin-American visitors due to the combination of a privileged nature with an excellent infrastructure, sophisticated tourist equipments, good reception and services.

Place of lobsters, Fortaleza has luxury hotels, resorts, excellent restaurants and bars, diversified commerce and an intense nightlife ensuring the best time to the visitors. Because of all these factors, each day more and more tourists are walking by the sidewalks on Meireles beach with shorts, slippers and colorful shirts, appreciating the poetic movement of the raftings (typical fishermen ships).

The best beaches, on the urban area, are Futuro, 31 de Março and Caça e Pesca. On Praia do Futuro (Futuro beach), hundreds of tents sell frozen beer, drinks (as the famous “caipirinha” with good and local white rum), seafood snacks e even fast meals.

During the night, on the sidewalks of Iracema and Meireles beaches, there is a street market with regional craftsmanship, as laces and the typical embroideries from the region. In the mornings, the local population and the visitors go to that walkway near to the sea for walking or running.

A sepia coloration gives magic to the scenario that combines the port, the lighthouse and the raftings’ movement going to the sea. Go back in the morning to see the raftsmen offering, at the same place, the fishing obtained in a working night.

On Morro de Santa Tereza (Santa Tereza Hill), highest point on Fortaleza and that offers a beautiful panoramic view, there are good restaurants, that similar to other establishments on the city serve the traditional fishing with manioc mush and lobster, masterly prepared in good restaurants with coconut cream, on carcass on the oven, al termidor or simply baked on water and salt.

Typical northeastern market, the boxes offer from food to craftworks, saucepans and utensils. It’s a good place for buying Ceará typical products, as toasted Brazilian nut, the crystallized cashew fruit sweet and the famous white rum made locally, pure, with cashew fruit or infused with herbs. Forró Spending the night in an animated forró, dance party with the same name as the musical gender that animates it. For several years admired only on the northeastern of the country, forró has been spread out throughout Brazil and it’s heard and danced on Rio de Janeiro and on other cities on the southeast of the country.

It’s an aquatic park with toys and emotions for all ages. From the innocent little duck on the lake to the radical “kamikase tobbogan”, where the human body attains the 80 km/h velocity, crossing, only in three seconds, 24 meters extension. It’s on the Aquiraz city, 35 km far from Fortaleza.

Fortaleza has excellent hotels and resorts with international patterns, as well as apart-hotels and inns to all preferences and budgets. With excellent auditoriums and exposition rooms, it’s one of the preferred places for conventions and events carrying out. Several tourism agencies take the visitors to strolls on the city and on the State. There are car rental agencies and branches from the main banks.

Fortaleza is on the Northeastern region, 2060 km far from Brasilia, 3100 km far from São Paulo and 2800 km far from Rio de Janeiro. It has a modern airport that receives regular flights from all Brazilian capitals and a lot of charter flights, especially from Europe and from North America. There are buses from the main States’ capitals departing to the city.
