Tourist Information about Jindrichuv Hradec

Jindřichův Hradec arose on the historical border between Bohemia, Moravia and Austria. A unique Renaissance chateau, which is the third largest in Czech Republic, is the most significant sight of the town. The chateau includes a Gothic palace with valuable Gothic paintings and the well-built Rondel, where a number of concerts are held due to its outstanding acoustics. The former medieval estate in the town core changed its appearance to an Empire style after a destructive fire in 1801. The tower of the Virgin Mary Cathedral, through the corner of which the 15th meridian passes, dominates the city. In the building of the former Jesuit seminary, where the District Museum is now situated, the biggest moving Christmas crib in the world known as "Krýzovy jeslieky" is displayed. The Church of St. Jan Kotitel, with valuable fresco paintings and a former minor monastery are among the significant sights. Famous classic music festivals (Concertino Praga), and also folk music festivals (Folk Rose) are held annually in the town .
