This medieval town was developed along the meanders of the Ohoe River. The Royal Guard Castle with Romanesque elements and half-timbering parts, dominates the town. The castle was re-built under the rule of Václav IV and later in Saxon Renaissance style. Examples of typical half-timbering you can find at some of the citizen houses on the picturesque square. The Loket cystle became a part of the famous German-Czech castle route known as "Burgenstrasse".
