The third section of the National Park is on Ofu Island and includes a section of pristine shoreline and fringing reef. The beach is fine coral sand, ideal for walking long stretches uninterrupted, and the coral communities are some of the healthiest in the South Pacific. While this is a wonderful place to snorkel, visitors must bring their own gear and check with park staff about special rules that apply. National and Maritime Parks
The American Samoa National Park protects rainforests and reefs on three of the larger islands: Tutuila, Ofu and T'au. The Fagatele Marine Park lies off the south-west coast of Tutuila Island.
While camping is prohibited within the parks, there are villages nearby which welcome visitors and are eager to share their culture. Arrangements can be made through the park staff.
