Tourist Information about Petit Canal

21 km from Pointe-à-Pitre, this quiet town, originally called Manchioneel as the poisonous tree of this name, is surrounded by the Mangrove. Until the end of the 19th century it was one of the big sugar centers. Today only ruins of former windmills and the rails of the sugar-train leading to the port remain as a testimony. From the church, on the top of the "slaves' stairs", you will enjoy the breathtaking panorama view to the Porte d'Enfer and Antigua, to the Pointe des Châteaux, the mountains of Basse-Terre, over the Grand Cul-de-Sac-Marin to the islands Fajou and Montserrat.
