Designed in 1749 in the hollow of the Gulf of La Gonave, Port-au-Prince has passed from a calm colonial town, 250 years ago, to a buzzing metropolitan city of today. The activity starts to calm down towards Pétion-Ville, a town perched a few kilometers away higher up the mountains, and it cintains a good number of hotels and restaurants, galleries and boutiques.
