Tourist Information about Quetzaltenango

During the 19th Century, Quetzaltenango developed an intense trading and artistic activity which put it at vanguard of Central American cities. The neoclassic profile of its buildings, such as the Municipal Theater and administrative buildings around the Central American Park, comes from that period. From its baroque period, only the façade of its ancient church, damaged by earthquakes, remains. However surrounding area saw the march of the Conquistadors. Here, there are very old buildings, like Guatemala's first church built in Salcajá, and the baroque temples of Olintepeque and Zunil.
