You will experience Rudkøbing as a wonderful mixture of old world charm and modern shopping facilities which fully lives up to modern day standards. Many of the town's shops are situated in picturesque buildings in the squares and small cobbled alleys. Here you will experience friendliness and old world service you thought was long gone. A visit to Rudkøbing is a great experience for the whole family. And when you are hungry you will be able to find a restaurant to fit your wallet - your choice ranges from traditional Danish food to pizzas to the more advanced cuisine with a wide selection of fish dishes. Other good experiences include the local museums, galleries and the pottery workshops. You should not forget that we are on the artists' island.

Rudkøbing today is a modern, picturesque town with about 4000 inhabitants. The harbour used to play a decisive role for life and business on the island. One of the large trading houses still stands in the middle of the town. Today the harbour is on its way to a new glorious status as attractive new flats with panorama views over the harbour are presently being built. All this contributes to creating the pulse and renewal that is necessary in a small community. In another way Rudkøbing has also shown its will to survive by having built a new attractive cinema which shows high quality films.

Great men have also been born in Rudkøbing. H.C. Ørsted became world renowned for discovering electromagnetism in 1820. There are not many other people who have had both a power station and a satellite named after them. Another well known Dane was born in Østergade. His name was Mads Lange, a businessman who amongst other things established a trading company on Bali and was named "The King of Bali".
